A 41-year-old man has been seriously injured by a Bengal tiger and white lion he owned as pets in his luxury house.
Local media report the attack happened when Erick Noe Romero Meraz was throwing a party in his luxury home in the city of Ciudad Juarez, in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua.
Meraz reportedly called his family pets, a female Bengal tiger and two white lions, both female, to him when one of the big cats became aggressive and attacked its owner.
A police source said Meraz was left with injuries between 4cm and 10cm deep in his legs, a tear in his kneecap around 15cm deep and a serious neck wound.
He was attended to by paramedics and rushed to a local hospital in a serious condition.
It is unclear which animal first attacked the man and police are currently investigating.
The animals, all said to be around one year old, were reportedly found by officers in the courtyard of the house.
The victim’s family claim they have all the necessary documents to allow them to keep the big cats as pets and the animals will be checked by authorities, according to reports.
The house has been seized by the police as they investigate. There are no updates on the victim’s condition.
