Katsina State governor’s wife, Hajia Hadiza Bello Masari, yesterday charged the beneficiaries of the N30 million interest free loans being disbursed to no fewer than 3,000 women across the state to make it a point of duty to invest in their small scale businesses and set the pace for others to follow.
Hadiza, who gave the charge at Women Multi-purpose Centre, Filin Samji Katsina, during the disbursement of the loans to beneficiaries from Katsina South senatorial zone yesterday, described the initiative as part of the present administration’s determination to put smiles on faces of women as it would help in increasing their productivity.
The governor’s wife urged women in the state to expedite action and use the privilege to start their small scale enterprises, as she reassured that the Masari led administration would continue to sustain the loan packages for women and less privileged persons in the state to underscore that it had their welfare at heart.
According to her, the government would do everything within its power to ensure that reasonable percentage of women and youths become self reliant in an effort to reduce poverty and unemployment in the overall interest of the welfare of all.
Earlier, the state commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Badiyya Hassan-Mashi, said the programme is aimed at giving women a sense of belonging as well as show them that the government has their welfare at heart, while urging the beneficiaries of the previous phases of the programme to repay the interest free loans to enable others to benefit.
Dr Hassan-Mashi also enjoined them not to look down on the days of the small beginning of their businesses as most successful men and women started with small capital but great commitment to succeed and thrive for the benefit of their families and the society in general.
