BY ANDY ASEMOTA, Katsina

The Special Adviser to Governor of Katsina State on Girl Child Education, Hajiya Binta Umar, has disclosed that the Female Teacher Training Scheme (FTTS) of the state has gulped over N200 million since the inception of the present administration.

She also said that no fewer than 3,400 female students have benefitted from the scheme at the state-owned Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsinma. The scheme is sponsored by the state in collaboration with UNICEF to boost girl child enrolment and education particularly in rural communities.

The governor’s aide, represented by the Staff Officer of the agency, Abubakar Ibrahim Kabir, made this disclosure yesterday during the disbursement of the special scholarship allowance to 1,175 female students of the college under the scheme.

She said that each beneficiary of the scheme gets N50, 000 annually until the end of their NCE Programmes at the college as part of the effort to help less privileged female students have more access to higher education and return to their communities later as role models and teachers in their respective communities or areas.

Earlier in his remarks, the provost of the college, Dr. Maigari Abdu, commended the scheme and priority accorded the education sector by the present administration and called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the opportunity.
