Allegations Against NHIS Boss, Baseless – Union

The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) has stated as baseless, allegations leveled against the executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Prof Usman Yusuf, by a faction of the scheme’s union, the Association of Service Civil Servant of Nigeria (ASCSN). In a press release signed by the chairman and secretary of the union, Comrade Mohammad Gajo and Comrade Innocent Abah respectively, the union stated that there are three approved unions in the scheme; the NCSU, the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) and the ASCSN and wondered why, of all the groups, only the ASCSN had seen fault with the NHIS boss who have brought about high impact reform in the scheme. “The current media war against the executive secretary is not unrelated with the most recent recovery of the N1.2 billion from 58 Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) and N103 million also recovered in March 2018. ASCSN has failed to inform Nigerians that these funds are currently in NHIS account with the Central Bank of Nigeria as at today,” it said.
