Obi’s Rejection By S’East PDP Govs Embarrassment To Igbo – IPAF

The Igbo Public Affairs Foundation  (IPAF) has strongly condemned the statement by South East caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) rejecting the choice of Peter Obi as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential Candidate in the  2019 general election.

According to news media reports, the South East governors of the PDP had disowned Obi who was on Friday picked as the running mate of Abubakar.

The PDP leaders from the zone declared that they were not aware of the choice of Obi as the running mate to their presidential candidate, Abubakar.

They argued that though Mr Obi is an Igbo son, Atiku could not have picked him without the knowledge of the leaders of the zone whom he had bargained with for the vice president slot, describing his unilateral action as an insult to the entire Igbo leaders.

But according to the convener of IPAF, Uzoh George-Tiga “ordinarily, we wouldn’t have bothered joining issues with those political leaders but for the fact that it portends great danger to the overall Igbo interest and complete integration in Nigeria.”

He said that as an umbrella body that is saddled with the responsibility of protecting the public image and affairs of Ndigbo, “we make bold to state that this embarrassment is avoidable.”

“We state categorically that the decision of that meeting was an attempt at pull down syndrome, mudslinging and bringing Ndigbo to disrepute,” he noted.
