IGP Orders Arrest, Investigation Of Killers Of NEMA Staff

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has directed the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to immediately detain and personally carry out a thorough investigation of policemen involved in the incident that resulted in the death of Miss Anita Akapson at Katampe Extension, Abuja. Force PRO, Jimoh Moshood, in a statement, said Akapson was killed on the night of Saturday, October 13, 2018; and the IGP has ordered his men to bring the perpetrators to justice. He further noted that the IGP deeply commiserated with the family of the deceased and assured them that justice will be done in the matter.

“The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command is already in touch with the family as directed by the Inspector General of Police. “The public will be informed of the outcome of investigations into the incident,” the statement added. Meanwhile, reactions have trailed the killing of Akapson, who was a staff of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Human Resource Department. One time minister of Aviation, Femi Dani Kayode, in his reaction, said, “Former Min. of Finance and leading opposition figure, Sen. Nenadi Usman, was one of those listed on Buhari’s travel ban. A few hours after the Presidency announced the ban, her niece was trailed, targetted, intercepted and shot dead by four policemen in the middle of the night in Abuja!” Another twitter user, Yusuf Abubakar had twittered that “Anita was shot by @NigerianPolice #justiceforAnita. This barbaric act happened in front of the poor lady’s house gate. I don’t understand how one can differentiate between a thief and the tenant of a house. We need educated, well trained policemen.” Also, NEMA spokesperson, Sani Datti described the late Akapson as a hard working lady, who worked at the Human Resources Department of the agency with so much zeal and energy and prayed that God grants her internal rest.
