Benue To Benefit From W/Bank Education Scheme

The World Bank in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Education has selected Benue State as one of the states to benefit from a pilot scheme to boost technical with skills acquisition. Senior Education Specialist, Dr. Tunde Adekola, who led a delegation from the World Bank and officials of the ministry, disclosed this at Government House Makurdi during a courtesy call on Governor Samuel Ortom. He stated that the main focus of the programme would be on apprenticeship where youths would be trained in technical and vocational skills in accordance with the manpower demands in the selected states.
According to him, three technical colleges would be selected across the senatorial zones of the state and equipped as well as linked with private sector participants with vast experience in such skills to be able to train the students effectively.

Dr. Adekola stated that the World Bank intended to invest heavily in skills acquisition such that people who acquire such training would not go about looking for jobs but be meaningfully engaged. He said the meeting with the Governor was part of the consultation with critical stakeholders with a view to identifying the manpower needs of the state and to enable states to put the necessary legislation and structures in place for the takeoff.
