Politicians, religious leaders as well as women and youth groups have been urged to co-operate with Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC towards ensuring peaceful, free, fair and credible general elections  next year.

Lead Speaker, Malam Ibrahim Yahaya made the call at a one- day sensitization programme organized by International Peace Foundation with the theme: Peace Building  In a Democratic Setting -The Stakeholders’  Role in Minna.

Yahaya stressed that women and children are mostly affected in any crisis situation hence the need for parents to monitor the activities of their wards at all times.

The Lead Speaker added that, ‘’Desperate politicians can do anything to pull down the country, especially if the process does not favour them, Nigerians need to rise up to the occasion and should ensure it does not happen any day any time’.

He called on other non-governmental organisations to come up with similar programmes as a measure of sensitising Nigerian electorates further on how to participate actively in the forthcoming general election devoid of violence of any form.

He also appealed to religious and traditional leaders  to make preaching against hate-speech  a point of duty so that their followers will desist from using it as it mostly instigates crisis which are hard to  curtail.

In his comment, Reverend Father Bulus Makama who is the Judicial Vicar,Catholic Diocese Of Minna  noted with dismay how religious leaders pay lips service with issues that fundamentally  have to do with peace.

Makama stressed that,’No politician or religious leader will enjoy whatever he chooses to do without peace. Therefore, we must preach and act peace at all times’.
