The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has assured intending pilgrims of zero mortality, adding that the Federal Medical Team will do all that is required to ensure the continuity of the previously recorded zero mortality of pilgrims on pilgrimage.

The executive secretary, NCPC, Rev Tor Uja, who made this known recently in Goshen City, Nasarawa, during the Orientation Exercise for the Federal Medical Team and Federal Medical Committee said, the commission in conjunction with State Pilgrimage Leaders had arrived at an acceptable cost of N680, 000 for this year’s pilgrimage to Israel and N870,000 for pilgrims travelling to Greece and Rome.

Rev  Uja,  noted that the orientation became necessary in a bid to ensure that the medical personnel are adequately prepared on what is expected of them and how they should work with other service providers to ensure that pilgrims get the best of medical services while on Pilgrimage.

“In the few years that we have analysed and monitored pilgrimage, we have identified key areas of greatest need of which health is one and have channeled our energy and time to make drugs and some basic medical testing equipment available to insure the health of our pilgrims while on pilgrimage outside this country ,” he added.

He averred that the commission in a bid to further insure the health of pilgrims while on Pilgrimage had secured a medical insurance agreement and cover with all the ground handlers to checkmate health challenges that goes beyond what can be managed elementarily by the medical personnel batched with the pilgrims managed by some hospitals in Israel.

The NCPC boss who intimated that the commission has been holding strategic meetings with all stakeholders that are involved in Pilgrimage Operations to make sure that the 2018 general Pilgrimage exercise slated to begin November 24, 2018 will  run through to the first week of January 2019.

He appreciated the Federal Medical Team and Committee for their commitment in service to the nation and humanity and charged them not to forget that Pilgrimage is a spiritual journey as they discharge their medical duties.

Speaking, the chairman of the Federal Medical Committee, Dr. David Atuwo thanked NCPC for organising the orientation exercise and also lauded their transparency approach in the selection of the 2018 of the team across the 36 states of the country.

He commended the selected Medical Professionals for their ability to distinguish themselves among the thousands who sat for the examination conducted by JAMB.
