Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Thursday enjoined members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to promote activities that would facilitate national unity and economic growth.

Tambuwal made the call at the inauguration of the 2018 Batch ‘C’ at Wamakko NYSC Orientation Camp, Sokoto State.

Represented by the state’s Head of Service, Dr Buhari Bello-Kware, the governor said the scheme had over the years, played a vital role in enhancing national integration, socio-cultural and physical development of the country.

Tambuwal advised the corps members to imbibe discipline and promote tolerance and understanding among all Nigerians, in addition to becoming change agents toward solving the country’s problems.

He urged the corps members to uphold the good morals imbibed during their training; interact freely and initiate viable community projects that would improve the living conditions of people in their places of primary assignment.

“The nation is faced with enormous challenges of development and meeting them needs collective efforts,’’ Tambuwal said.

Earlier, the Chairman, NYSC Governing Board in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Ladan, said the corps members had demonstrated exemplary conduct during the orientation, urging them to keep such conduct intact.

Ladan urged the corps members to join forces with the government in fighting corruption, drug abuse and other vices in the country.

He said that corps members who excelled would receive awards from the state government and Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar at the end of their one year service while any one found wanting would be sanctioned.

The Coordinator of NYSC in the state, Mr Philip Enaberue, said that 1,829 corps members comprising 916 males and 913 females were posted to Sokoto State.

Enaberue commended the state government for rehabilitating the orientation camp and providing other logistical supports toward a successful joint orientation in the state.

The coordinator said that the corps members would be made to understand the cultural values and the environment, to enable them to uphold patriotism.

He advised government ministries, agencies and private organisations to give decent accommodation and warm reception to the corps members posted to them.
