Canada Gov General To Address Students On Space Science, Technology Devt



The Governor General of Canada, Rt. Hon. Julie Payette, would address over 1,000 school pupils and secondary school students in Abuja on opportunities available in space science and technology development.

Payette who would arrive Nigeria on Monday, October 29, 2018, on her maiden visit to Nigeria would address the school age children at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). She would also make a personal donation of space related items to the National Space Museum, domiciled in the agency which was recently completed by President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.

Before assuming office as Canada’s Head of State in October, 2017, Payette worked as a senior Canadian astronaut and flew on two missions to space. She was the first Canadian female astronaut on the International Space Station, and has also served many years as capsule communicator at NASA’s mission control Centre in Houston Texas, and was chief astronaut for the Canadian Space Agency.

The governor general is well respected in the community of space practice across the globe, particularly for her works and efforts in developing policies to promote science and technology.

A statement by the NASRDA’s head of Media and Corporate Communications Unit, Dr Felix Ale said the entire management and staff of the space agency under the leadership of its director general, Prof Seidu Mohammed is not only looking forward to the visit of the governor general of Canada with great enthusiasm but sees it as timely and historic, since this will be the first visit of a foreign head of state to Nigeria’s space agency.
