NNPC Refutes Alleged Funding Of Buhari Media Campaign

The management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Friday, described the allegations that its group managing director, Dr Maikanti Baru, is responsible for financing the media/publicity arm of the President Mohammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation as a political hallucination.

Refuting the claim in a statement, group general manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ndu Ughamdu, said the allegation was not only patently false but runs against the prevailing gale of transparency and accountability pervading the operations of the NNPC since the advent of the current administration.

‘‘With no regard for the cherished investigative reporting ethos of balance and confirmation of story, the allegation, without doubt, come across as a kindergarten  execution of an ill thought political brinksmanship,’’ Ughamadu said.

The corporation then called on all well-meaning Nigerians in general and stakeholders in the oil and gas industry in particular, to disregard the report which it described as phantom, stressing that the management of the NNPC under Baru is focused on delivering the aspiration of President Buhari for the petroleum industry.
