Ekiti Assembly Member Dies After Gunmen Attack



Ekiti State House of Assembly was yesterday thrown into a state of mourning following the death of their member , Hon Michael Adedeji, who was shot last Friday by unknown gunmen.

The forty-year- old lawmaker is representing Ekiti Southwest constituency II, was shot in the head by his assailants who waylaid him while driving in his car in the early hour of the said day.

The gunmen were said to have trailed him to the spot while returning to the state from Akure, Ondo State capital.

Reacting swiftly to the killing, Governor Kayode Fayemi who described the killing as unfortunate and shocking, urged the security agencies in the state to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous act and also nip in the bud all forms of killings in the state.

The governor who spoke during the swearing-in of the new Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji and his Chief of Staff, Biodun Omoleye, in Ado Ekiti, said the administration will put in place new security mechanism to stem killings and secure the lives and property of the people.

Confirming the death of the lawmaker, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon Adeniran Alagbada said Hon. Adedeji gave up the ghost early in the morning on Monday at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti(FETHI), where he was admitted for medicare after the attack on Friday.

The Speaker, who spoke to journalists on the matter through the House Leader of Business, Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan alleged that their dead colleague was a victim of assassination, saying: “nothing of his belongings was taken away by these assailants .

“Some people threatened him on facebook that they would deal with him for betraying ex-Governor Fayose before he was shot. They were not happy with the way he has been cooperating with Fayemi.

“They trailed him from Akure and when he thought he could take a reverse and escaped, they shot him at close range from where the killers were hiding , so the killing was predetermined.’’

“Even another member of the House, Hon Cecilia Dada was  being threatened  by member of Osoko  Mass Movement, political platform of Mr. Fayose that they will deal with her.
