Former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) DG and World Bank vice president, Ms Arunma Oteh, is set to leave her position at the World Bank to join Oxford University.
According to Reuters, Ms Oteh will be joining St Antony’s College of the University as an academic scholar in January 2019.
Recalled that Ms Oteh was appointed Vice President and Treasurer, World Bank Group in 2015, where she and her team have been responsible for managing its US$200 billion debt portfolio, as well as an asset portfolio of almost US$200 billion for the World Bank Group and 65 external clients, including central banks, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds.
Oteh served a five-year term as the Director General of the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where she was responsible for the regulation of the country’s capital markets.
World Bank’s president, Jim Yong Kim, thanked Oteh for her service to the Bank. He said: “Her committed service to the World Bank Group, to our mission, and to our clients around the world we wish her the best at Oxford”.
As SEC DG, Oteh is mostly remembered for her long-winding battle with the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Capital Market, whose members she accused of seeking financial inducements from SEC during a probe of the market in 2012.
Prior to her appointment as SEC DG, Ms Oteh served as the Vice President of Corporate Management & Corporate Services of African Development Bank (AfDB).
She was Bank Group Treasurer, and she has also held positions in treasury and lending at AfDB from 2001-2006. She has also worked in corporate finance, consulting, teaching and research.
