Former leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Dr. Chidi Julius Lloyd, has said that contrary to reports in the media, there are no factions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
Lloyd, who disclosed this in a chat with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday, described those claiming to belong to factions within the APC in the state as apologists of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former lawmaker said: “There is no faction anywhere. It is a gathering of PDP apologists. You know when you talk about Senator Magnus Abe, I get very emotional. I wish that Magnus was not beaten by this bug of ambition.
“I cannot sit here to deny the fact that Senator Magnus Abe was a very staunch member of the APC until he left the party for what he will consider as greener pasture. As far as I am concerned, his conduct does not depict that he is in APC.”
Lloyd, who is the Director-General of APC campaign organisation in Rivers State, expressed the hope that the party’s governorship candidate, Pastor Tonye Cole, will bring a lot of development to the people of the state.
He said: “Pastor Tonye Cole is bringing a lot to Rivers people. The reason why I accepted to be the director-general of Tonye Cole Campaign Organization is because of his pedigree. Tonye Cole is an architect. What it means is that God has programmed this period. Rivers State is in the reverse gear; a lot has happened to Rivers State.
Infrastructural, socially, policy-wise, nothing is happening. Rivers State has been on a standstill for three and a half years now. Tonye Cole, no doubt has been a successful businessman. You and I can take that to the bank. Tonye Cole has grown his money, not public sector funds.
“He has grown his business from scratch to a multi-billion business empire. So, you can see that he clearly has a vision for Rivers State. We are going to grow Rivers State. Tonye Cole will bring his network to bear in Rivers State and we will bring the state to the time when it was that Rivers State is at par with Lagos State. It is either Rivers State or Lagos State.
That is how it was until the present administration came into office. That is exactly the approach we are going to take on. It excites me to be Director-General of Tonye Cole Campaign Organisation, he is a product that is easily marketable.”
