A 43-year-old unemployed woman, Nyam Elizabeth, on Wednesday, appeared at a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja for alleged cruelty on an 11-year-old girl, Emmanuel Grace.

Elizabeth, who resides at Team B area, Kado, Abuja, however, denied committing the alleged offence.

The prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that one Emmanuel Ikogwu, of same address with the defendant, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on Oct. 29.

Ukagha said the complainant reported that on the fateful date, the defendant beat Grace, her ward, and bit her on the right shoulder following an argument.

The prosecutor said during police investigation, the defendant allegedly confessed to the crime.

She said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 275 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, adjourned the case until Nov. 11 for ruling on the bail application
