Nigeria Police have arrested one former banker, Emmanuel Emeka Onuma, 34 years old, for breaking into the ATM lobby of a commercial bank located in Garki and stealing N14,000.000.00.
The event, which happened on 19 October, 2018 at about 12 midnight, prompted investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect on November 1, 2018.
Parading the suspect in FCT, ACP Valentine Olumese said the suspect, who was an employee of the bank before he was sacked in August this year for fraudulent activities, confessed that he acted alone.
According to him, some of the money he stole from the bank were converted to foreign currency estimated to be $33,000 (US) at Abuja and Kaduna for ease of movement.
ACP Olumese said upon his arrest, the following amount of money were recovered from him as exhibit: cash sum of $28,000, N1,650,120 and nine pieces of Ghana ceddis.
Other exhibits recovered from him include one new SIM card and flight tickets.
While speaking to journalists, the suspect said he was dismissed after working for 11 years without any compensation.
He, however, regretted his action and said there was no justification for stealing and he was sorry for his action.
