Court Remands Security Guard Over Alleged Theft Of 10 Laptops, 2 Cell Phones




An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered that a 37-year-old security guard, Adelanwa Adisa, been remanded in Kirikiri Prison, for allegedly stealing 10 laptops and two cell phones, valued at N2. 5 million.

The accused, who lives at No. 5 Shittu Crescent, Ipaja in Lagos, is facing a two counts of breaking and entering and stealing.

Chief Magistrate T. A. Ojo, who gave the order, said that the accused be remanded in prison, pending when the bail conditions are met.

She admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Ojo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified by the court.

She adjourned the case until Dec. 5 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecution alleged that the accused broke into an office and 10 laptops and two Nokia phones, valued at N2. 5 million, property of NR Limited.

The police prosecutor, Sgt Kenrich Nomayo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 26 at 2. 00 a. m. at No. 56 No. 56 Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.

After the charges were read to him, he accused pleaded not guilty.

The offence the prosecution said violated provisions of Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes seven years imprisonment for stealing while section 307 provides three years for house-breaking. (NAN)
