In Sokoto State, the drama over who becomes the next governor or whether the incumbent, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, would retain his seat is gradually getting to its climax.
This was as the list of candidates released by INEC so far showed that about 49 candidates are scheming to become occupants of Sokoto State Government House come 2019.
When LEADERSHIP Sunday visited the state INEC office, it was gathered that, incumbent governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s name was not amongst the 49 candidates jostling to become Sokoto State governor.
For the PDP, where Tambuwal holds sway as the incumbent governor and leader of the party in the state, it is the name of his anointed candidate, Alhaji Manir Dan’Iya that is on INEC list.
And for the APC, Tambuwal’s deputy governor, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto is the candidate.
Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto is Senator Wamakko’s anointed candidate for the 2019 governorship.
LEADERSHIP Sunday also gathered that no fewer than 40 candidates would be contesting for the 30-member State House of Assembly seat.
Speaking on the list so far pasted, Alhaji Mohammed Musa, Sokoto State INEC Head of Voter Education said there is still room for changes.
According to him, all the political parties still have between now up till 1st of December 2018 to either substitute or make necessary arrangement in their party’s candidature.
