Police,Vigilantes In Manhunt For Killers Of Student In Bayelsa

Vigilante groups in Bayelsa State have joined the men of the state police command in the search for the cultists involved in the Thursday night gruesome murder of 16-year-old Miss Seiyefa Fred, a 100 level student of the Niger Delta University, Amassoma in Amarata.

The groups, identified as the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service headed by the chairman, Evangelist Parkins Ogede, vice chairman, Chief Enifie Ide and secretary r, Comrade Ari Fekorigha, said they had offered and deployed the Urban Surveillance Unit and some special squads to the scene of the crime with a view of trailing the culprits.

The Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, in a statement it issued at the weekend through the chief press secretary to the chairman, Mr. Favour Waribo-Bekewari, joined well-meaning Nigerians in condemning the gruesome murder of Seiyefa, describing it as “unwarranted, crude and barbaric.”

Waribo-Bekewari said: “We noted with dismay that the assailants came with discreet intention to maim and to kill their target, with a view to portraying the state in bad light before the international community in order to secure their inordinate ambition.”

He said that those behind the dastardly act were working out a script from their paymasters in Lagos and Abuja, who were hell-bent on causing security confusion in the polity, stressing that the sledge hammer of government would not spare anyone found wanting in the dastardly act.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State commissioner for Education, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, has said that those who killed Miss Fred would not go unpunished.
