Corps members serving in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been advised to educate the electorates in the nation’s capital on the evils of vote buying and selling.
The FCT minister, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, gave the piece of advice yesterday at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members in Abuja.
He charged them against partisanship, adding that their participation in the forthcoming election should be in line with the objective of the umpire by virtue of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all security agencies towards achieving a peaceful and credible election.
Bello said: “As you are all aware, the political landscape is agog. In the months ahead, a lot of political aggrandisement will evolve with various political parties seeking ascendancy into elective offices in the FCT and the nation.
“You are expected to be apolitical in all ramifications. Your participation must always reflect that of the umpire by virtue of NYSC collaboration with INEC and all security agencies for the peaceful conduct of all political campaigns and by implication, a free, fair and credible election in 2019,” he said.
The minister, who was represented by the director, Finance and Administration, FCT Social Development Secretariat, Hajia Salia Umar, further advised the corps members to reflect on the various exposures of the programme, identify a particular trade, and remain committed as well as reorder their energies to become self-reliant.
Earlier, the FCT coordinator, Bello Ballama, who congratulated the corps members for being well-behaved during the orientation period, urged them to brace for the task) ahead as it is enormous.
