Three trekkers from Japan, Malaysia and France died in Nepal’s Everest Region after a one-week trek, the local Nepal
police said on Wednesday.
Deu Prasad Limbu, a police officer near the Everest base camp, said that the body of 63-year-old Japanese who died in hotel on Tuesday was being transported to Kathmand.
The officer added that 43-year-old Malaysian woman and a 60-year-old French woman trekking back to Lukla, a small town with an airport from Everest base camp, died earlier.
Limbu said “the French woman slipped and fell to her death. Their bodies have been transported to Kathmandu for an autopsy.”
The Malaysian national also died at the hotel, her cause of death was unclear, as it was the case with the Japanese.
Thousands of foreign trekkers trudge up to Mount Everest’s base camp during the spring and autumn season, taking advantage of good weather conditions.
A few trekkers die every year due to altitude sickness or by slipping off the treacherous trail.
