The Speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr Onofiok Luke, has said that arrangement is underway to establish a Security Trust Fund for security officers to ensure continuous peace in the state.

Luke said that the trust fund when established would provide funds for procurement of security equipment and provide support to personnel, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

The speaker who disclosed this in an interaction with members of Correspondents Chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Uyo, stressed that the fund, which would have the backing of the legislature, would take off next year.

He said that industrialisation, which is the cardinal point of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration, could not strive without peace and security in the state.

The speaker, who said that there cannot be industrialisation without security, stated that the governor has been working with security agencies in the state to make sure that lives and property of residents are secured.

He called on the people of the state to re-elect Emmanuel for continued peace and security of the citizenry.

Luke said the governor has promoted peace in the state, adding that the security challenges experienced before the onset of his government has been checked.

He added that the governor has through his industrialisation programme built industries in the state that were nonexistence in the 31 years of the state’s creation.
