Former councillors in Kebbi State under the aegis of Kebbi Ex-Councillors Forum ( KECF) have commended the Kebbi State government for approving the payment of their severance allowances.
The chairman of the forum, Hon Usman Ibrahim Mayaki who is the vice chairman of Birnin Kebbi local government area made the commendation on behalf of the ex-councillors in the state yesterday at the Presidential Conference Hall in Birnin Kebbi.
He said the governor has done what previous governors of the state failed to do by paying the entitlements of over 500 ex-councillors.
“We must commend the governor for this gesture, this issue has dragged us to court against the previous administration and the court ruled in our favour.
“The previous regime did not pay us our money as instructed by the court not until when Governor Bagudu came and approved the payment of N300 million to our members”, he said.
Mayaki pointed out that the former councillors to be paid include those from 2004 to 2007; 2008 to 2011; and 2012 to 2015, including councillors who have served under the Area Development Councils during Dakingari’s administration.
Also in his remarks, Nasiru Umar Langu, former councillor of Marafa ward in Birnin Kebbi thanked the governor for the kind gesture. He assured the governor and APC of their unflinching support in the coming 2019 general elections.
