As campaigns for the 2019 elections began yesterday, the Nigeria Police has called on all the political parties and their candidates to be law abiding and conduct their campaigns in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The police urged political parties to provide the Federal Capital Territory Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command with prior notice of all their activities in Abuja, especially those which will attract the large gathering of people for adequate security arrangement and coverage.
These were contained in a statement signed by the command’s public relations officer, Mr. Anjuguri Manzah.
He appealed to supporters of political parties or candidates to eschew all acts that could cause a breakdown of law and order in the FCT.
Meanwhile, the police, have expressed satisfaction and commended the commissioners of Police in Kwara, Katsina and Bauchi States, senior officers from other formations and their personnel, officers and men of other security and safety agencies deployed to complement the Nigeria Police Force in the implementation of the security arrangement for last Saturday’s bye-elections in Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero federal constituency of Kwara State, Kankiya/Kusada/Ingawa federal constituency of Katsina State and Toro federal constituency of Bauchi State.
The police also extolled the high level professionalism, civility, politeness, firmness and unbiased conduct of their officers and that of other security agencies, before, during and after the elections.
