Vigilante Group Urges PMB To Assent Bill

The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the VGN Bill before him into law.

The commandant general of VGN, Alhaji Muhammed Usman Jahun made the appeal in Abuja during the National Executive Council meeting of the organisation which had the commandants of the 36 states and the FCT in attendance.

Alhaji Jahun said the bill, when signed into law would give constitutional recognition to VGN and also enhance the performance of the organisation across the country.

According to him, “Vigilante group is an ancient security organisation that has been complimenting the efforts of formal security agencies in protecting lives and property of Nigerians.”

He said members of VGN had over the years been trained by professional organisations within and outside the country on best security practices.

The VGN commandant general stated that to further enhance the performance of the organisation, VGN signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU with Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria to upgrade the education qualification of its members across the country.

He, however, reiterated the commitment of VGN towards complimenting the efforts of other security agencies in safeguarding the lives of Nigerians most especially before, during and after next year’s general election.

In their separate remarks, the Kano State Commandant of VGN, Muhammed Kamal and his Ogun State counterpart, Adedoyin Olanrewaju Munerin said their members had been working tirelessly in assisting the state governments in the area of curbing crimes most especially in rural areas.

They therefore solicit more support from state governments to further boost the morale of members of VGN nationwide.
