Why Ortom Deserves Second Term, By Suswam

Former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has appealed to the electorate to set aside their political differences and vote for his successor, Governor Samuel Ortom, in next year’s governorship race.

Suswam said that Ortom deserves a second term because he had risked his political ambition to defend the people against the enemies of the state and would perform better if re-elected.

The ex-governor, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Benue North East Senatorial District, rose in defence of Ortom at the NKST Synod in Mkar, Gboko local government area.

He said that the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, which Ortom signed, did not go well with the federal government and some indigenes of the state, hence the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other agencies’ witch-hunt of the governor.

Suswam stressed the need for the people to vote for the governor in 2019 as he had demonstrated his commitment to protecting his people at the detriment of his personal interest.

He said: “It was you (clergymen) and Benue people, who encouraged the governor to sign the bill, please don’t abandon him now. Continue to pray and support him as the implementation goes on.

“If you abandoned Ortom half-way in this battle, it will discourage other leaders who have the intention to risk their lives for you,” Suswam said.

On his senatorial ambition, the former governor said that he had handed his ambition over to God, but appealed to the people of the zone to vote for visionary leaders.

“I urge you to vote out all weak leaders who can neither protect your interest nor attract investments to the state,” he said.
