The director general of National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Suleiman Zakari Kazaure and governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari have warned corps members against financial or material inducement and partisan politics during the forthcoming general elections.
They gave the warning yesterday at the swearing in ceremony of 2018 Batch “C” Stream Two corps members deployed to Katsina State.
Declaring the NYSC orientation course open, Governor Aminu Bello Masari, represented by his special adviser on Youth Development, Ibrahim Khalil Aminu, enjoined the corps to shun cultism, politics, religious intolerance and any form of anti-social behaviour.
Addressing the corps members, the NYSC boss, Brig. Gen. Suleiman Zakari Kazaure, charged those that would serve as ad hoc staff members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (NYSC) in the general elections to remain neutral, and abide by the electoral rules and regulations.
“Avoid financial or material inducements by anybody and be good ambassadors of the NYSC and the nation,” said Kazaure while appreciating the dedication and commitment of the corps members since the collaboration of NYSC with the INEC since 2010.
Fielding questions from journalists after the ceremony, the General assured that the pending upward review of NYSC allowance will have to wait until the approval of the new national minimum wage.
“NYSC is part of federal government’s parastatals. So, we are still waiting for the minimum wage. I am sure that whatever is approved will definitely affect NYSC,” he said.
Earlier, the NYSC State coordinator, Hajiya Ramatu Sanda, disclosed that 1,507 prospective corps members were deployed to the state for the current stream.
