A Non-Governmental Organisation, Halimafactor Initiative has solicited government, corporate bodies and individuals’ support in sponsoring programmes that help in promoting youths with natural and creative endowments in North eastern Nigeria in particular and the country at large.
The founder of the NGO, Halima Usman, made the appealed at the 5th anniversary of the Gombe day of literature and creativity, held on Tuesday in Gombe the state capital.
She disclosed that increased focus on talent and creative development in youths would contribute to job creation and the growing cases of crimes, youths restiveness and other evil acts would be reduced considerably.
She said the Gombe day of literature and creativity was designed to showcase emerging talents in poetry, writing and other creative arts and it’s the fifth year that the event is taken place.
“It is a platform to discover the intellectual ability and natural talent embedded in the children of the north east and to showcase them to the world. And to as well encouraged them to use their talents for economic sustainability.”
She explained that entries are invited in two categories: Junior and Senior Schools categories, where talents are invited to showcase their work of arts and literature.
Meanwhile, Halima stressed that the under performance of the NGO over the years is closely tied, amongst other factors, to poor financial support from government and corporate bodies.
“We have been doing this event in the last five years and honestly there is no financial support from government, we only get their support in terms of representation.” she said.
Halima however, appreciated the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for their commitment and support in ensuring the success of the fifth edition of the event.
“The support and commitment we received from the NNPC really helped in making this year’s event colourful and successful, we really appreciate them.”
Speaking the General Manager Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of NNPC, Ahmed Laminu says the corporation is ever ready to support young Nigerians towards boosting the literacy rate in the country, especially among school age children.
He said NNPC is 100 percent in support of what the Halimafactor initiative is doing in promoting literature and creativity among young Nigerians in the north eastern region of Nigeria. “We believe in this effort and initiative and for NNPC, our doors are widely open, we will continue to support such initiative.” He said.
