DSS Arrests Suspected Boko Haram Medic, IS Member, Others



Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected Boko Haram medic, Yusuf Salisu aka Bala in Sabon Birni village, Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.

Also in the custody of the DSS is a suspected member of the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA), Umar Nuhu, an associate of Liman Maitukwane, the current leader of Ansaru group. He was arrested on November 13, 2018 at Rafin-Guza, Kaduna State by the joint team.

The DSS have also arrested four members of a gunrunning syndicate with two of them, Bitrus Badung and Emeka Obi, on the run.

The suspects’ arrest was contained in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the DSS public relations officer, Peter Afunanya.

He disclosed that the suspects were picked up November 9, 2018 by a joint DSS and military team.

According to him, Salisu is linked with 13 high-profile Boko Haram commanders who are on the wanted list of security agencies and operated a medicine store where he treated wounded kidnappers or their victims.

Afunaya identified the gunrunning syndicate suspects as Kim Dung, a local AK-47 rifle fabricator, Hubert Akubulo, aka Okafor, Chidi Stanley and Elochukwu Oguabia, while Dare Okunwola, aka Boda, had earlier been arrested by the joint team in Jos, Plateau State.

About 1,163 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from them. Afunanya said that the service had also arrested a notorious suspected kidnapper, Muhammad Musa, aka Zara, when he was perfecting plans to abduct a lawmaker and a prominent personality in Kaduna and Kano respectively.

He said that Musa was arrested on November 7 at Mararaban-Jos, also in Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.

Similarly, the DSS arrested one Shuaibu Shehu, Abdulkarim Dauda, Adamu Usaini, Umar Adamu and Usaini Shede on November 16 for kidnap and cattle rustling at Gumel, Jigawa while on transit.

The exhibits recovered from them are one AK-47 rifle, one locally-made pistol, two military uniforms, 64 cows, four donkeys, some rams and two machetes.
