High Maternal, Child Mortality In Nigeria Worries Aisha Buhari

Wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari has expressed worry over high prevalence of maternal and child mortality in Nigeria.

Aisha Buhari expressed her concern in Kebbi during the Flagg off of November Round Maternal and Child Health (MNCH) week in Alelu, Jega local government area of Kebbi State.

She said Nigeria was among the countries with high maternal and child deaths in the world even as the causes of deaths are preventable.

“Nigeria is one of the countries with high maternal and child mortality both at continental and global levels

“It is painfully true that some of the causes of deaths among these groups are preventable “.

She said that simple interventions such as increasing awareness about the importance of health care services, provision of routine antenatal care services, routine immunization, de worming of children and vitamin A supplement could significantly contribute to reduction of maternal and child death and that the MNCH week provided good platform for delivery of these simple life saving interventions.

The Wife of the President advocated for strengthening of the health system and supporting women to adopt heathy practices and seek approximate care for maternal and child health.

She commended the effort of Kebbi State governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and his wife, Dr. Zainab Bagudu on their efforts in improving health and wellbeing of women and children in the state. The wife of the president was represented at the event by Hajiya Hansatu Zanna.
