2019 Presidential Election Debates Will Be Issue-based – John Momoh



The chairman, Channels Television, John Momoh has said that 2019 Presidential election debates would be majorly issue based, to showcase the potentials of aspirants.

Speaking during a press conference in Abuja yesterday, Momoh said the debates will focus on the issue that matter most to Nigerians including, the working families, restoring the nation’s economy, providing electricity, creating jobs, securing health care for every Nigerian, making and achieving excellence in every Nigerian school and ensuring safety and security for Nigerians.

The Nigerian election debate is organised by the Nigerian Election Debate Group (NEDG), Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON). The presidential debate is slated for 14 December, 2018 and the vice presidential debate on 19 January, 2019.

Momoh said that the Nigerian election debate group would set the format, rule of the debate and handle moderation of the anticipated debate.

He said that the outline of the criteria for political party participation and ensuring the objectivity of audience to steer negotiations between the broadcast and the parties would be included.

Speaking further, Momoh also mentioned that Nigerians expect the leaders of all political parties to be challenged in a very public and robust way in these debates, not just one of them but a series of them.
