The leadership of the Niger Delta ex agitators have threatened to return to the creeks if President Muhammadu Buhari doesn’t remove the current special adviser to the President on Niger Delta Amnesty Programme, Prof Charles Dokubo adding that this may affect their support for the president’s reelection bid.
The national spokesman and public relations officer of the leadership of ex agitators leadership forum, Mr Charles Kogo James stated this during a protest by members of the ex agitators at the Amnesty Programme Office yesterday in Abuja.
He said they have not received any payment in a long while despite that the President has released their funds saying that they are not getting their benefits and what is legitimately due to them.
James also said Dokubo is using funds that is meant for the ex agitators to finance and empower opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and internally working with them.
He said the SA is intentionally depriving the Niger Deltans ex agitator so they will move their support to the opposition party in annoyance to work against APC in favour of PDP.
He said, “I don’t have access to an office created for our empowerment as a leader of ex agitators. We are dying silently. We are using this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to caution Charles Dokubo or better still sack him and reappoint anybody amongst the ex agitators leaders who can protect the interest of the president’s reelection bid.
“We are all dying of hunger, we have been deprived of our rights. We call on Amnesty International to intervene in Nigerian Amnesty Programme for the Niger Delta ex agitators. President Muhammadu Buhari has always release the funds for the programme.”
Also speaking during the protest, chairman of ex agitators, Bayelsa State, Excel Monday said most of them that were awarded scholarship have been force out of school because of lack of funds.
He said they have been disarmed, rehabilitated and supposed reintegrated into the society and left to die of hunger.
“A lot of people are being pulled out from school at the moment. He keeps complaining about those in the data base, has he ever consulted us? can he proof that he has ever sat with the leaders to check the authenticity of the boys or youths in the scheme that embraced the presidential amnesty. We are calling for forensic audit. We have to be with them to do the forensic audit of those he’s giving contracts to.
“Charles Dokubo has to leave the office as he is not helping issues. A lot of people have not been benefiting in my camp. A lot of people are not receiving their pay, why. Is the Presidency not releasing the budget? A lot of billions have been released and injected into the budget again, so what happened to the billions that was injected into the budget again?
“We have issues of education in our region, has he ever considered that as a Professor? How can he pull those who are already in the university out and claim that they were not the right people that are supposed to be in the programme. We ask that he be removed,” Excel said.
