Following the attacked by people suspected to be political thugs recently at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) premises, a Non-governmental organisation, The Save Ijaw Nation Group (SING) has condemned in strong terms the siege, calling it a treasonable act.

In a statement issued and signed by the executive director, SING Foundation, Comrade Idris Usman in Abuja and made available to LEADERSHIP, said the organisation is disgusted at the rate at which politicians use hoodlums to perpetrate their evil act just to attain political aspirations.

According to the statement, the pan Niger Delta group stands forth to resist any attempt by anybody to destroy democracy and impose the will of the minority, on the majority of Akwa Ibom people.

“We commend the lawmakers by Speaker, Honourable Onofiok Luke for standing firm to foil the coup with the active support of the Akwa Ibom people who demonstrated firmly that they were scandalised by the crude assault,” he said.

The group demand an immediate end to the sponsored anarchy in the state which it termed “an act of treason” calling on the Federal government to investigate the planners and perpetrators of the invasion and the sealing of the Assembly premises to he tried and punished.

“We want an independent judicial commission of enquiry to handle the investigation,” he explained.

It could be recalled that the unknown hoodlums who invaded the Assembly complex along Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, the capital city, on Monday morning, set fire on the roads leading to the Assembly complex and blocked the entrances to the Chambers.
