3 Herdsmen Face Jail Term For Beating Colleague To Death

 Three herdsmen who allegedly conspired and beat their friend to death during a fight that ensued among them have been remanded at the Federal Prison Yard, Oke-kura, Ilorin.

The accused are Ismaila Musa, Abubakar Mohammed and Umar Mohammed; all from Fulani Camp, Edidi, Kwara State.

Prior to the arrest of the accused, one Bolaji Adebayo of Edidi, Isin local government area, Kwara State, had reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Oke-Onigbin, Kwara State that the accused killed one Abubakar Alhassan.

According to the complainant, some Fulani men engaged themselves in a fight during which the deceased was hit with a stick on the head, leading to his death.

The complainant stated that after the deceased was hit on the head, he fell down but later stood up and went to his camp.

However, the next day, the deceased was taken to Awoye Clinic and Maternity Center, Edidi, for medical treatment when his condition worsened as a result of the assault meted on him in the course of the fight. He was later confirmed dead.

Hence, the accused were apprehended and arraigned on a two -count charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide contrary to Sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code Law.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that during the course of investigation conducted at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, Ismaila (first accused) admitted and confessed to have been the person who hit the deceased with stick on the head, which later led to his death.

The prosecutor, Inspector James Odaudu, informed the court that the alleged offence was capital in nature and not ordinarily bailable.

He objected bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them in prison custody until the next adjourned date.

The judge, Mr MK Aluko, who declined to take the plea of the accused for lack of jurisdiction to try the matter, agreed with the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison Yard, Oke-Kura, Ilorin.

The court adjourned the case till November 29, 2018 for further mention.
