The management of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has confirmed the death of five of its students while four others sustained various degrees of injuries in a ghastly motor accident on Tuesday along Damaturu – Potiskum road while traveling to Gombe State.
The university management, while condoling the families of the deceased students in a statement issued to newsman yesterday, in Maiduguri by the Registrar, Tijani Bukar, said the confirmation of the casualties came after the dispatched fact- finding team sent to the scene of the accident ascertained the situation.
Mr Bukar said: “Following the report of the tragic motor accident that occurred in the morning hours of Tuesday, 20th November, 2018 along Damaturu-Potiskum road that involved the loss of lives, the UNIMAID management raised and dispatched a fact-finding team to ascertain the situation.
“On arrival at the scene of the accident, the team discovered that some University of Maiduguri students along with others were involved in the ghastly motor accident.
“The casualties include nine deaths out of which five were discovered to be University of Maiduguri students whose bodies were handed over to their parents, guardians and relatives. Two of the injured students have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe while the other two were brought to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and are responding positively to treatment. Those who got minor injuries have “The vice chancellor and the university management commiserate and condole with the university community, students union government, parents and guardians of the deceased, and pray to Almighty Allah to repose the soul of the dead and quick recovery to those responding to treatment.”
