Over 400 self-employed men and women in Danmusa local government area of Katsina State received N10, 000 each at the weekend to boost their small-scale businesses.
Before kicking off the self-funded empowerment programme, a former university don-turned administrator, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, said that it was part of his intervention to bring succour to the less privileged in all the wards in his local government area.
Inuwa said that the financial assistance was aimed at strengthening the economic capacity and growth of the beneficiaries, who had different means of livelihood, irrespective of their political affiliations.
He urged well-to-do people in the area to assist their kith and kin to be self-reliant rather than giving alms to the people to lift them above the poverty line.
Earlier, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Danmusa, Alhaji Abubakar Yantumaki, who gave insight into the programme, said that about N4 million would be disbursed to food vendors, tea and bread sellers and itinerant traders.
