The All Progressives Congress Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Abia North Senatorial district, Dr David Onuoha-Bourdex yesterday declared the district a must win for the party in the 2019 general election.

Onuoha-Bourdex made the declaration when members of the Great Reformers Group (GRG) led by its Founder and Leader, Hon Kalu Mba Nwoke paid him a solidarity visit in his home in Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area.

He said the party will work hard to win the election to bring the desired change, which he said had been eluding the district since the inception of the present democratic dispensation in the country about 20 years ago.

He blamed past representatives of the district for not doing enough to repostion it despite “the numerous avenues available for them to do so” adding that if elected, he will deliver on his election promises.

“Aside from constituency projects, there are several windows open to a senator to attract development to his constituency if only he or she knows about them and has the capacity to reach the sources and to meet their conditions,” he said.

Bourdex-Onuoha, who said such conditions include integrity, strong personal economic base, and financial capacity to pay counterpart fund for such interventions, added that he is the most qualified candidate with such qualification.

He commended Nwoke who is the councillor for Ohafor Ward 1 and the deputy leader of Ohafia Legislative Council and members of the group for the visit, saying he had been humbled and challenged by their confidenc in him.

“Nwoke who is a member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has by this act put his political career on line for my sake. I have been humbled. This gesture will ever remain green in my mind,” the candidate noted.

He used the opportunity to announce his intention to rehabilitate an over 40-year community-built public toilet in Asaga Ohafia in the area, expressing shock over the condition of the facility which serves even non-indegens.

Speaking earlier Nwoke said after having considered the anticident of the candidate as an individual and a philantrophist, the group was of the opinion that he will reposition the district if given the opportinity to serve it.

The councillor said the group, though founded by him, a member of the PDP, is non-partisan, but interested in ensuring emergence of creadible representatives and leaders in the ward and partnering with development agences.

He said he had taken the facility matter to some of the political leaders and representatives of the ward at various levels of government but to no avail, adding that if urgent action was not taken, “the facility may collapse completely any moment from now.”

The deputy leader explained that he was constrained to cry out for help for the renovation of the facility to potential helpers irrespective of their party affiliation in his bid to serve his people better.
