Nasarawa Partners Cuba On Animal Husbandry, Malaria, Education

The Nasarawa State government has expressed its desire to partner with the Cuban government in the areas of Animal Husbandry, Malaria Prevention/ Eradication, Education, Technological transfer and others.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, made this known yesterday when he received the representatives of Cuban Companies, at Government House Lafia. The visitors were in Nigeria, as a follow up to the earlier visit by the governor to Cuba few months ago, where talks were held on different areas of expertise and for partnership.

Al-Makura, disclosed that while he was in Cuba, bilateral talks were held on the proposed plan to have a ranch in support of the federal government, to reduce the farmer/herders crisis.

He disclosed that the state wanted to try this model in the 5000 hecters that was dedicated to the federal government and they were discussing with the office of the Vice President with a view of flagging off the project.

The governor who described the delegation’s visit as timely, said the state government had marked five different areas for ranches which would serve about 1000 cows for a start as a pilot scheme.

In area of health he said during the visit, he had fruitful discussions with Cuban doctors, who would come and support primary health care agency through outreach programmes that would take specialised doctors to the hinterlands to improve the primary healthcare services in the state. Other issues discussed by the governor and his visitors  in Cuba, includes Malaria eradication, Lassa fever and other sickness ravaging the people of the state.

“We are also willing to collaborate with the Cuban government in the area of education, where some Cuban teachers especially in the areas of science and technical subjects, will teach in our dedicated science schools, to foster technology transfer between Cuba and Nigeria and Nasarawa State.”

Earlier, some members of the visiting Cuban delegation, also expressed their willingness to partner with Nasarawa State in the areas they had discussed,  which includes agriculture, animal husbandry, technology and medicine with the aim of prevention and eradication.
