Zamfara Govt Suspends 4 District Heads



Governor Abdul-Aziz Yari of Zamfara State has directed local government area chairmen to suspend all projects and focus on the fight against banditry, as four traditional rulers were suspended.

He said that those suspended were the district heads of Gora in Talata-Mafara local government area and Musa Bariki, the district head of Barikin Daji.

Others are the village heads of Gyado and Tungan Dutsi both in Bukkuyum local government area.

The  four chiefs would be investigated by a ministerial panel and would be charged to court if found wanting.

Yari spoke through the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bello Dankande when he redeemed the government’s pledge of N1million for the recovery of AK 47 from bandits.

He stressed that the attention of the government was to end the current banditry activities in the state.

“The attention of the Yari led administration now is on security challenge, therefore, we are determined to fight the bandits with all our resources,” he said.

The commissioner, however, said that with this development, the council chairmen were only to execute, essential services such as health, education and water.

He further stressed that, state government was ever ready to deal with anybody found wanting in the fight against bandits.

“We are ready to deal with anybody including traditional rulers found to have links with the bandits”, he said.

The commissioner announced the gift of N3 million for the recovery of three AK 47 to the communities of Bukkuyum and Maru local government areas.
