The Senate, yesterday confirmed the appointment of Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede as the Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
President Buhari had requested approval of the Senate for confirmation of Olukoyede in a letter dated September 10, 2018.
The letter was however, read in plenary by President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki on October 3, 2018.
On Tuesday, the Senate differed the confirmation of the appointment and asked the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, to screen the nominee properly and proffer recommendation for his confirmation.
Yesterday, the request for approval of the appointee was granted amidst protest from some lawmakers.
While presenting the report of the Committee yesterday, the Chairman, Senator Chukwuka Utazi (PDP, Enugu North) explained that the nominee, Olukoyede, satisfied the requirements.
He said the nominee demonstrated competence and sufficient experience to occupy the office for which he was nominated and urged the Senate to confirm him.
The nominee, Olukoyede is an indigene of Ekiti State and currently the current Chief of Staff to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.
