Ortom Raises The Alarm Over Vote Buying

Published

on

A new trend has recently emerged in Benue State especially in Makurdi, the state capital, where unsuspecting members of the public are being dispossessed of their PVCs with pretence that they would be given the Federal Government Social Investment Home-grown School feeding programme job

In this regard, the State Governor Samuel Ortom,  has directed security agencies to crack down and arrest politicians moving round houses to buy the Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) from electorates.

However,  the governor in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Makurdi said the security agencies have been notified and anybody found buying voter’s cards or selling will be arrested and prosecuted.

Governor Ortom expressed worry over the growing incidences of the PVCs buying and selling and advised members of the public to be wary of those who will want to dispossess them of their cards.

Our correspondent gathered that some voters are being misled into selling their voter cards for between N5,000 to N10,000.

Governor Ortom also said his administration will continue to stand by the people and the law prohibiting open grazing which also provides for ranching of animals.

The governor said the greatest challenge he has encountered in implementing the law is refusal of the federal government, which controls the security apparatus to cooperate with the state to fully implement the law.
