Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, has described the successes recorded in the 2018 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference held in Maiduguri, as a product of the very strong leadership credentials of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, who is a proud son of the state.
Shettima stated this yesterday while declaring close the 2018 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference held at the Nigerian Army Command Guest House in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Shettima, who fumed at the rate of negative stories flying on social media and mainstream media over the operations of the Nigerian Army in the northeast, said the trend is not only saddening but condemnable.
Presenting the keys of G4O Innoson vehicles commissioned and donated by the Nigerian Army to some deserving Army Warrant Officers who distinguished themselves in the course of serving their father land, Governor Shettima said he is thrilled by the gesture from the Chief of Army Staff to the officers even as he made his own little contribution.
“As my token contribution, I am donating N100, 000 to each of the 2019 warrant officers. This occasion is also an attestation to the very strong leadership credentials of the Chief of Army Staff, who is a proud son of Borno State.
“On this note and on behalf of the government and good people of Borno State, it is my honour to declare the 2018 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference holding in Maiduguri closed.’’
In his closing remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai thanked the governor, the good people of Borno and his executive members for their support to the Army in hosting the conference, despite short notice.
Buratai added that the choice of the team of the conference, “Optimising the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Army towards safeguarding democracy and national security in Nigeria,’ was carefully selected to remind the Army of its constitutional role in preparation of the 2019 general elections .
