Governor Abdul-Aziz Yari of Zamfara State, has approved the dismissal of seven traditional rulers.
Addressing journalists in his office, commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Bello Dankande, said that the government panel constituted to investigate their link into the banditry activities in the state were proved beyond doubt.
According to him, based on the findings of the panel, Governor Yari approved their dismissal from office as from Friday November 30.
The affected district heads are: head of Ruwan Gora, Isa Sadeeq Balarabe in Talata Mafara emirate, Altine Magaji, District head of Ruwan Rana and Sani Sarkin Dutsi, district head of Ruwan Jema in Bukkuyum emirate.
The affected village heads were Bello Magaji, village head of Gurbin Bore, Marafa Zubairu, Danjeka Gyado, Bukkuyum emirate Hassan Mohammed in Bukkuyum emirate.
Dankande stressed that the dismissal is in accordance with section 17 and Law 15 of the Zamfara State Traditional Rulers Laws that vests powers on the governor to appoint and depose traditional rulers.
He further explained that some other traditional rulers suspected to be connected with the bandits were also under investigation.
