A 25 year-old sales representative, Gbenga Akinyemi, on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly defrauding his employer of N305,000.

Akinyemi, whose address was not provided, is facing  a two-count charge of  fraud and stealing, but he pleaded not guilty.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the accused committed the offences from Oct. 20 to Nov. 22, at No. 45, Koleosho Str. in Okitipupa.

Omoyeigha said the accused failed to remit the N305, 000, which was the proceeds of some bags of cement he sold for the complainant, Mr Tobi Aganyebi.

“He stole and converted the proceeds of sales to his personal use,” the prosecutor said.

The offences contravene Sections 383 and 390(8) of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Dickson Ogunfuyi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Ogunfuyi said the surety should show evidence of  one year’s tax payment to Ondo State Government.

He adjourned the case until Dec. 18, for mention. (NAN)
