2019: Focus On Issues, Uk Based Pro-Buhari Organisation Tasks PDP

The United Kingdom Chapter of the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) has charged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to focus on issues rather than engaging in comments that could heat up the polity ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Convener of BSO UK, Joseph Adebola, made the call in a statement in Abuja.

The statement was in reaction to PDP`s recent call for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, and the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, before the 2019 general elections.

Adebola criticised the PDP for making such a call and described it as unfortunate and self-serving, giving the party’s antecedents while it was in government.

“Calling for the resignation of the two important actors heading the two most important outfits saddled with ensuring peaceful, free, fair and credible elections with less than three months to the elections speaks of desperation by PDP,“ he said.

He said that Nigerians had not forgotten that the PDP institutionalised corruption that almost brought the country to its knees before the APC came into government in 2015.

The convener said that the country was still reeling from the effects of PDP’s mismanagement of “our commonwealth despite strenuous efforts by the present government to address the situation“.

He, therefore, advised the PDP to go back to the drawing board and come up with credible and workable manifesto to sell to Nigerians instead of playing to the gallery.

“Nigerians are wiser now and will no longer be deceived by rhetoric with no substance. Nigerians know where they are heading and know who is capable of taking them there.

“This country needs continuity of the basic foundation being laid by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, the government is on the right track of salvaging the country and the people are solidly behind him.

“We are not going back to Egypt, we are heading to the Promised Land and President Buhari and Prof. Yomi Osinbajo are our Pilot and co-pilot, let’s carry go, “he said.

The convener said the PDP should concentrate on redeeming its image rather than calling for the resignation of public officers who were doing their official duties to the best of their ability.

“The PDP should concentrate on redeeming its already battered image in the minds of Nigerians and tell Nigerians why they should be voted for in 2019,” Adebola said.

He said it was crystal clear that INEC had put in place appropriate machinery to guarantee free, fair and credible elections in 2019.

According to him, the PDP has tried to no avail to foil through its stooges in the National Assembly some of the machinery put in place by INEC by trying to rearrange the order of the elections.

Adebola also said that it was clear that the country`s Police Force was gearing up to ensure security, law and order during the elections as witnessed during the recent peaceful governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun.
