Indigenous oil company, Belemaoil Producing Limited, has initiated an intervention and support programme for internally displaced persons in Adamawa State, under Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC/Belemaoil Joint Venture short-term intervention/support.
The company has also provided relief materials consisting of food Items, household Items and pharmaceutical drugs worth millions of naira to four IDP Camps spread across the state, namely Malkohi, Fufore and Damari camps as well as the St. Theresa Catholic Church IDP Camp.
Speaking at the official opening/ commissioning of the intervention in Yola, Adamawa State, the Manager, External Relations of Belemaoil Producing Limited. Samuel Abel-Jumbo, said the intervention was conceptualize by the joint venture to provide immediate relief to the vulnerable persons affected by Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.
Abel-Jumbo stated that under the scheme, the NNPC/Belemaoil Joint Venture will re-construct homes for the displaced persons, rehabilitate and reintegrate them back into the society, saying that the programmes was divided into three phases, the Short-Term, Medium-Term and the Long-Term.
He said: “We are here to demonstrate our support to the federal government and the government of Adamawa State in bringing succor to the victims who are now survivors of the North-East insurgency that particularly affected the North-East States of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno.
“In achieving this feat we have planned our intervention programme in three phases, we have the Short-Term which is what is kicking-off now with this commissioning exercise. We are going to have the Medium-Term which would commence by next year upon the provision and availability of land for some form of construction work to provide homes and other amenities for the persons who will be occupying them.
“Finally we are going to have the Long-Term phase which involves training and skill acquisition as well as provision of soft loan and economic support to enhance the economic activities of the IDPs after the reconstruction.
“Our Short-Term Intervention programme which is the reason why we are gathered here to today include the provision and donation of different relief materials and items ranging from Food Stuffs of various dimensions, Household Items as well as medical that is drugs and pharmaceuticals to the four identified Internally Displaced Persons Camps in Adamawa State”.
In her remarks, the representatives of NNPC/NAPIMS Mrs.Kolapo Jolayemi said the programme for the internally displaced persons in Adamawa State will be sustained annually for five years.
