As the Holy Scripture says, “If the foundation is destroyed what will the righteous do.” So, without a strong foundation, no matter how fanciful the structure could be, it cannot stand the test of time. A country that want to be great, invest massively in infrastructures, create enabling environment for her citizens to strive economically as well as securing their lives and properties. Nigeria must as a matter of fact lay strong foundation that will defile all storms and capable of carrying the structure that will be built on it because Strong institutions are the pillars needed for a modern society.
No wonder, in the ‘Next Level’ policy document of President Mohammed Buhari (APC), it was vividly done that the foundation work is not often visible, neither is it glamorous – but it is vital to achieving the kind of country we desire. A sincere examination of the state of Nigeria before President Buhari took over government shows that, the extent of decay and deterioration we have sunken into was almost beyond repair.
History had it that the amalgamation of Nigeria took place, as we know in 1914 and in 1960 we gained independent after so many agitations for self-rule. Before now, so many governments have governed this country- from military to civilian, with leaders from the major and minor ethnic groups has steered the affairs of this great nation. But one thing the Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria has been clamoring is for a credible and performing person like PMB to lead the nation to a next level of development in all ramifications. Devoid of ethnic or religious sentiment, rather to vote leader with track record of intimidating integrity, that detest corruption of any kind with the political will to do what is right.
President Buhari has proven to the world that, for a country to compete favorably in the comity of nations, it must command the patriotism of her citizens, and earn the respect of the international communities, as an independent and strong institutions with a determined leader(s) that are ready to do the needful.
Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria (GOGAN) has seen all these aforementioned attributes in President Muhammadu Buhari led administration. The NGO has also witness a massive change in the way things are been done in the country, the grand scale corruption perpetrated at the highest level of governance is now a thing of the past.
Treasury single account has made it very difficult for ministries, departments and agencies to exercise the unrestrained liberties that helped foster a climate conducive to corruption. It is a well-known fact that, corruption is not associated with any tribe, race or religion, but like the proverbial wild fire that burns everyone’s farm, a plague that affect both the rich, poor, small and great.
The good news is that President Buhari led administration has actually been winning the war against corruption. Hence, the nation’s wealth that were hitherto stolen are now being invested on capital projects to expand infrastructure and connect people, goods and opportunities by rail, road and air.
As a responsible leader, Buhari’s administration has completed most abandoned or on-going projects across the country. So, the question of “show me any project started and completed by President Buhari” would not even arise. Given the fact that these abandoned projects when completed will improve the lives and wellbeing of Nigerians. Unlike previous experiences, this administration has taken it upon itself to change the narrative by completing numerous projects. Without any contradiction, Buhari has proved beyond reasonable doubt that, good governance is the foundation our moving forward in this country. No wonder, he has been completing projects that were long forgotten as far back forty years: the Mabila Power Station, Ajaokuta – Itakpe rail, Second Niger Bridge just to mention but a few.
A critical comparison has shown that between the sixteen years of the past administration and the three years of the present government, this administration in all ramifications has done more even with lesser oil revenues.
Nigerians should believes that there is still more to be done even as this government lay the foundation for a stable and prosperous nation.
GOGAN urges Nigerians to shun tribal, religious and political sentiments to embrace the good governance that President Muhammadu Buhari has demonstrated by re-electing him for second tenure, so that our dream of becoming a great country not with numerical strength but with purposeful driven economy will not be a mirage.
