As the Christmas and the New Year celebrations approach, the Nigerian  Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command said it would deploy about 3,000 officers to strategic places in Abuja to maintain law and order.

Speaking to newsmen in his office yesterday, the commandant of NSCDC in the FCT, Commandant Patrick Ukpan stated that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure peace and order, within the period, so that residents could sleep with their two eyes closed.

“I want to assure residents of the FCT that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure the maintenance of peace and order during this period of celebrations. We have made plans such that all security agencies are working collaboratively and in synergy to ensure that no stone is left unturned, so that residents can sleep with their eyes closed,” he said.

The commandant also advised residents to always avail the corps with necessary information on activities around them, adding that security is everybody’s business, since there is no way “we can have security operatives everywhere.”

“So, we need your help and your assistance, as regards information gathering.  Parents should also watch the activities of their children and their wards to be sure that they are not lured or indoctrinated into criminal activities.”

If they suspect the behaviour of their children or wards, they should please alert us, so that we can conduct a background check on them, to see who their friends are and who they are relating with and then check up what they are doing,” he added.
