Yuletide: NEMA Launches Operation Eagle Eye In Adamawa

Worried at the increasing rate of road mishaps, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yola operational office, has, yesterday, launched Operation Eagle Eye, to combat road carnage during Christmas and New Year festivities.

The exercise, code-named ‘Safety Above All’ was organised in partnership with stakeholders in disaster management, where motorists and other road users were enlightened on proactive measures to avert road mishaps.

Mallam Imam Garki, NEMA Head of Operation, noted that, the exercise was conducted at the time when the state is bubbling with high rate of traffic as well as political activities.

Garki further cautioned motorists against violation of traffic rules and regulations while driving, adding that the act may jeopardise free flow of traffic exposing many to road dangers.

He lauded the federal government’s efforts in embarking on massive road construction and rehabilitation, which he said have decreased rate of road accidents in the country.

“Road Safety is everybody’s business, I urge motorists to abide by traffic rules and speed limits to stay alive.

“Long vehicle drivers should avoid intimidating other road users, using bodies of the vehicles to cause accidents.”

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, represented by Ali Fika, head of Operation, reiterated the commission’s efforts in ensuring the enforcement of road safety rules.

Fika added, that many FRSC personnel have been deployed across the states to ensure accident-free roads before, during and after New Year celebrations.

Leaflets containing FRSC emergency call lines were distributed to motorists at the exercise, in case of road eventualities.
